Life Purpose – your soul’s mission

I believe that we were all sent here for a reason and that we all have significance in the world. I genuinely feel that we are all blessed with unique gifts. The expression of our gifts contributes to a cause greater than ourselves.
However, a life purpose isn’t just about a career.  People seem to assume that we’re either genetically or divinely encoded with some sort of built-in purpose, and all we need to do is take the time to discover it through private introspection. You just sit down one day and write a mission statement and trust that what comes out of you will be the guiding force for the rest of your life. Perhaps every 6-12 months you update it.

In the work I do as a Psychic Medium, there has been numerous individuals coming in and out of my office door.   Some I have discovered had tons of questions about their life purpose.  It’s one of the most difficult reads there is since the discovery of a life purpose is the journey of growth and learning.  This can’t just be told, it needs to be experienced in order for the growth to take seed. Most do not understand this at all.

Here’s a story about Bruce Lee.  A master martial artist asked Bruce to teach him everything Bruce knew about martial arts. Bruce held up two cups, both filled with liquid. “The first cup,” said Bruce, “represents all of your knowledge about martial arts. The second cup represents all of my knowledge about martial arts. If you want to fill your cup with my knowledge, you must first empty your cup of your knowledge.”

If you want to discover your true purpose in life, you must first empty your mind of all the false purposes you’ve been taught (including the idea that you may have no purpose at all).
This sounds easy, but it’s actually quite difficult.  Remember, it’s easier said than done.

Empty Your Cup.

Are You Living Your Dreams?
If the answer is no, then ask yourself “why not”? Life is short, and you never know when it will come to an end. Do you really want to say that you lived a life of unfulfilled dreams?

Is Finding Your Life Purpose Preventing You From Living It?
Think about this for a moment.  This concept of a life-mission, is no more or less than the one thing that you are doing in this now moment, every moment, that brings you unprecedented and timeless joy.

You Will Not Be Truly Satisfied Until You Do This…
To be satisfied and fulfilled you must do something you love to do. But it is not always easy to do that. You will find yourself drifted away from doing what you love and do other things to just make a living. You may be successful but not satisfied and your soul may be looking for something bigger to pursue.  This is what I call feeding your soul.  There are many people who find themselves placing themselves on the back burner.  They get lost in the lives of others, hence moving away from their own life.

To make a long story short, most people find themselves unhappy because their life chapters are shifting.  It’s that simple, let’s not complicate things.  Be sure to journal, it forces us to focus and allows our truth to be told.  There is a need to see the reasons of unhappiness and slowly make the changes, which can be very complicated, to ease into the next chapter of your life.
We all have intuition that we can access.  Numerous times a client will have their questions validated to what they already knew.

  1. Barb, you well know that I was stuck in the same mindset for so long, and I remember being frustrated at times when you wouldn’t give me the “answer”. You have coached me along, helping me find out what makes me happy. I remember my moment of epiphany, and sent you a very excited message. I had realized that what makes me the happiest is being home for my husband and kids, being available to help out with worthy causes, and that I absolutely hate being stuck in someone else’s box! Your short and sweet reply was, “Well blow me over with a (feather), she finally gets it!!”

When I look back on that time, I am grateful that I was able to find my way on my own. That doesn’t mean that I have been alone, but I was able to look deep inside myself to find what truly makes me happy. Along the way I learned that my “life’s purpose” did not have to mean a career, but just exactly as you have stated in your article…I needed to find what truly brings me joy.

I am now able to allow things to flow naturally, understanding that I am a child of God and a student of the Universe, and that wherever my path leads me, I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing at any given moment.

Thank you, Barb, for your articles. They are always so insightful and ring true to my heart. This one certainly fits that category! Since I’ve stopped trying to “figure out” my life purpose and started to listen more to my inner voice, I am feeling much more contented with myself in general. I wouldn’t say that I know my life purpose, but I don’t feel as restless about searching for it anymore. Now I just need to get better at recognizing my inner voice when it doesn’t actually shout at me. :)
